Barbara Kyle - Charter Member
Barbara’s gracious, soft spoken, kindly manner, her expert negotiating skills and her West Texas twang have contributed to her success both in the truck trailer business and more recently, in residential real estate. Graduating from McCamey, Texas high school at just 16 years of age and playing the baritone saxophone, she continued her schooling taking courses at several colleges while moving many times and raising two children, Mark (Buz) and Karmen.
In 1981 she married the love of her life, Ottis Kyle (“Kyle”) a strapping 6’ 7” expert truck trailer salesman whom she met while they were both working at Fruehauf. After their marriage, Barbara pursued her interest in real estate and began working for Weldon Rigby as an agent.
When Kyle chose to take early retirement, Kyle and Barbara bought a motorhome and moved to Kerrville. They joined a motorhome club and began traveling, an adventure they enjoyed for the next 22 years, covering 47 states, the southern provinces of Canada, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and British Columbia. They made lifetime friends with other motorhome club members. Barbara still attends a monthly club luncheon.
One year of the quiet Hill Country living was enough and the Kyles returned to Houston, settling into a townhome in Brompton. Kyle returned to selling tank trailers working from their home office and Barbara sold real estate. Kyle was a licensed real estate broker and Barbara did his secretarial work.
While marketing a property in Briarmeadow, Barbara met Lou Gorski. Lou’s client bought the house and in 1995, invited Barbara to attend HIREBA after which she became a Charter Member.
Over the years Barbara has survived breast cancer, the passing of her daughter and her husband and most recently, dealing with Parkinson’s Disease and still has a cheery smile on her face. She has attended the same Stretch & Tone exercise class for 27 years and has wonderful friends there. Barbara’s latest love is “Lacy”, an energetic nine-pound Shih-Tzu who takes her on a mile walk twice a day around her West University neighborhood. In addition to being a marvelous cook and hostess, Barbara raises African violets and orchids with one plant at least 20 years old.
